Steel sheet pile
Sheet piles are long structural sections with a vertical interlocking system that form a diaphragm wall.
Walls are often used to retain soil or water. The performance of a sheet pile section depends on its geometry and the soil into which it is driven.
The pile transfers pressure from the high side of the wall to the soil in front of the wall.
In piling, hot-rolled sheet piles and cold-formed sheet piles are the two main methods of manufacturing sheet piles. While there are differences between the two methods, the most important difference is interlocking.
Because hot-rolled sheet piles are made of high-temperature steel, the interlocks tend to be tighter than cold-formed sheet piles.
Generally, looser interlocks are not recommended in extremely harsh driving conditions or on walls where low permeability is required. Otherwise, the two types of sections perform similarly.
